Snoring & Sleep Apnoea
Obstructive Sleep Apnoea Treatment
Snoring is one of the most common and most complained about problems amongst Australian adults. Even though snoring can appear to be harmless, it may actually be a sign of a more serious condition known as Obstructive Sleep Apnoea.
Sleep Apnoea is a medical condition or sleep disorder in which there is an obstruction of the throat or airway during sleep. This repetitive stop-and-start pattern of breathing can have a significantly negative impact on the quality of one’s sleep and overall health.
OSA can increase the risk of obesity, high blood pressure, stroke, heart attack, type 2 diabetes, depression, mood disorders and sudden death.
Treatment for sleep apnoea can vary depending on how serious the condition is. There are a variety of treatment options available most commonly using oral appliances like Somnomed, mandibular splints and devices like the CPAP machine. In some cases surgery is also considered.
At Murray Valley Dental Group we take the time to assess your overall health and conduct sleep studies and screening to determine the best course of treatment for your sleep disorder. To find out more about how our team can stop snoring and treat sleep apnoea check out our Sleep Apnoea Treatments.
